What are Dentures?

Dentures can be made using different materials and can be full or partial, fixed or removable. Depending on your specific need, individual preference, and budget, Dr. Leizerovich will discuss your options and work to give you the solution that fits your smile, character, and needs.

Types of Dentures

If you are looking into replacing your missing teeth with dentures, we can help! There are several options and combinations our dentist can make to suit your lifestyle and preferences.

Look at the list below of different types of dentures, and contact our office at Newbury park to assist you in getting the best fit for your condition.

Depending on the number of missing teeth, your dentures can be full or partial:

Full dentures - Complete dentures replace all your teeth on either the top or bottom jaw (or both).

Partial dentures - Partial dentures are used when some natural teeth are still present. These dentures use your remaining teeth to keep them anchored in place, thanks to metal or acrylic clasps that fit around your teeth.

Dentures can also be fixed, removable, or overdentures:

Fixed dentures - Fixed dentures replace your missing teeth permanently with dental implants anchored to your jawline. The implants will securely support the denture and provide great stability to your new teeth and improve your ability to speak and eat. Your denture will look and feel natural.

Removable dentures - Removable dentures can be taken out and put in at your convenience. Depending on how many natural teeth remain, you can use denture adhesive or built-in clips to hold them to the jawline.

Overdentures - Overdentures, also know as snap-on dentures, are a solution in between fixed and removable. They are typically fixed to dental implants using a special type of clips, so the dentist can remove them for repairs or replacement.

What Is the Process for Getting Dentures?

Once you and Dr. Leizerovich agree dentures are your best option, the process of reviving your smile with your new natural-looking denture is as follows:

1. Prepping the Jawline

If needed, we perform teeth extractions to ready your mouth for dentures. A waiting period will then be allowed for your mouth to heal before proceeding with the next steps. You will have the option to stay toothless until your jaw heals or use temporary, immediate dentures.

Our skilled dental team will take impressions of your mouth and work with you to choose the smile design you like, which includes choosing teeth size, shape, and color. Once you make a choice, the information will be sent to the dental laboratory to create your dentures.

Once your dentures are ready, you will need to try them out until the next scheduled visit. During this fitting period, you will check how comfortable your dentures are and what changes you feel are necessary, and adjustments will be made based on your feedback.
